WELCOME TO OUR PRE-K CLASS
We have a lot going on in our Pre-K Class. Our teachers are knowledgeable, loving and truly enjoy working with children. They plan lots of fun activities, art projects and unique learning experiences to keep your child busy, happy and learning, throughout the day!
Our Pre-k Classroom contains areas of math, language arts, geography, science, dramatic play, blocks, wood working, puzzles and arts & crafts stations. These activity areas focus on skills of writing, math, science, language arts, and various cognitive development exercises. The children bring their activities on the rugs. The use of rugs promotes their focus, concentration skills and respecting personal space.
This class has a structured scheduled academic time each day from 9-11:30 am. We have circle time where weekly themes are discussed. Circle time also includes the activities for calendar, learning months, seasons, days, class jobs, reading stories, and show and share. This is followed by a small group time used to develop targeted academic skills. We are writing every day whether it’s our name, weekly letter practice or tracing the shapes and numbers. Phonics is also emphasized. After mastering the single sounds we move to blending sounds and eventually to reading by ourselves. Math skills are practiced with Saxon Math Program. Numerous counting, early addition and subtraction exercises. Spanish language is a daily part of the day.
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Teachers model and instruct children regarding safety and social issues to enable children to learn problem solving and have positive interactions with their classmates. Ultimately, children are encouraged to explore and thoroughly enjoy the learning process. Children’s attention span and listening skills are expanded through activities in preparation for school.
Children try hard to be independent. We take responsibility for our actions, our work and our room. We pick up after ourselves. Help the teacher with meal time and nap times. We are big kids now and we are proud of being responsible.
ACTIVE PLAY TIME
We start our morning with brain gym, a sequence of exercises and stretches that involves all parts of the brain with whole body movement. Mid morning and afternoons are planned with outdoor play time. Children enjoy running and playing with their friends on various play structures outside. That helps them with the growth of their gross motor muscles and skills.
ARTS AND CRAFTS
Children are exposed to various mediums of art to create masterpieces. They engage in special craft projects with some teacher instruction where the emphasis is on enjoying the process not the end product. Music and movement activities are done as well.
