2-3 Years Old
WELCOME TO TODDLER II
There is a lot going on in our Toddler II room. Our teachers are nurturing, and caring. They plan lots of fun activities, art projects and unique learning experiences to keep your child busy, happy and learning, throughout the day!
Our Toddler II room has a ‘circle time’, where they come together as a group and discuss the theme for the week, the color, the letter and the shape. Each month we focus on one letter and one number. Attention spans are short at this age, and taking a slower pace to learning better ensures the child’s attention and remembrance of what is taught. Letter and number recognition are encouraged through songs, puppet shows, and felt board stories and with other hands-on materials. These early language arts and math concepts give children the confidence and love for learning that will continue on as they grow.
At two years of age, our Toddler II classroom is just getting the hang of talking. We work on the expansion and extension of language. We assist the children in expanding one word sentences, into full sentences, as they are ready to transition to our preschool class. Story time is done all throughout the day to increase vocabulary. Spanish is introduced in this class as well.
Two year olds love to move! As they get older, they are beginning to understand the concept of their space. They are beginning to gain control of their limbs and make deliberate movements. At this age physical development is very important. We support their physical development through music and movement opportunities, such as dancing, ribbon play and lots of outdoor activities.
In this room children are beginning to build early positive relationships with each other; it is a big step in our Toddler II room. Though their language skills are limited, children are encouraged to play with new friends, participate in group activities, and begin the process of problem solving by sharing and taking turns. Children’s manners are also focused on as children are encouraged to say please and thank-you.
Each day the children do an art activity. Art is an excellent way for children to be creative and express themselves. This also assists them in developing their fine motor skills. The emphasis is on enjoying the process, not the end product.
Music is ever present in our Toddler II room. We play music during quiet time, and throughout the day. We also introduce children to lots of different types of music, such as songs in different languages.
