WELCOME TO TODDLER I
There is a lot going on in our Toddler I room. Our teachers are knowledgeable, high energy and truly enjoy working with children. They plan lots of fun activities, art projects and unique learning experiences to keep your child busy, happy and learning, throughout the day!
Our young Toddlers are not yet able to speak, but that doesn’t stop us from talking to them. Our teachers talk to the children all throughout the day. They explain what they are doing as they go about daily activities. Hearing people talk is the most crucial step for children in developing their own language skills.
In Toddler I, we offer children many areas of play. Children are encouraged to walk about the room and choose their own activities. Our teachers serve as models in the proper behavior, expected of our Toddlers as they interact with one another. When disagreements occur, our teachers use redirection as a mean for guidance and assisting. It helps children in learning how to problem solve and build positive relationships with their peers.
As most of our children in our Toddler I class are walking, shoes will be worn all day. We go outside twice a day (weather permitting), once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The Toddler classrooms have their own playground that is just for them and meets their gross motor needs.
It is hard to imagine, our toddlers sitting for any length of time, let alone for a group time discussing the theme of the month. However, though their attention span might be short, a ‘circle time’ or group time is still presented to them. Songs and stories are sung and read, the theme introduced in a simple and enthusiastic way to keep children interested. We want them to find ‘circle time’ fun and enjoyable, so that as they grow, they will be eager to sit and learn.
Each day our Toddler I children do an art activity. Art is an excellent way for children to be creative and express themselves. It helps the children gain a sense of independence as they do their own art work. This also assists them in developing their fine motor skills. In our Toddler I room, the emphasis is on the process, not the end product.
Music is ever present in our Toddler I room. We play music during quiet time, and throughout the day. We also introduce children to lots of different types of music, such as songs in different languages.
